Handball women miss semifinals
For two hours, the German handball team hoped for a surprise in the Scandinavium of Gothenburg and the Team hotel but the dream of the European Championship semi-final burst. The convincing 28:22 (12: 9) win against hosts Sweden did not reach the team of Michael Biegler to move into the round of the last four for the first time since 2008.
Nevertheless, there was satisfaction in the German camp. It was a great team performance. This pressure must be sustained great this team can be proud of itself. Against Sweden, Emily was the best laureate in front of 5031 spectators with five goals. After their victory, the Ladies were still jubilant and freed through the catacombs of the arena. It was a lot of a striking goalkeeper. The first half of the subsequent match of the French women saw the Germans still in the hall and then they returned to their hotel for dinner.
Prior to this, they had shown a concentrated and committed performance over long distances. In comparison to the 20:20 against Spain, the DHB selection made much less simple mistakes and could not be impressed by the atmosphere in the Scandinavium. They also felt much fresher in their heads than the opponents did.
The German handball women came against Spain at the European Championship in Sweden not a draw. The point loss is surprising. How Biegler, who, after the difficult first few minutes in the Spanish game had practiced clear self-criticism brought mainly in the second run some players who are not otherwise in the front row. However, the game did not change concentration and train to the gate remained high.
The DHB team started on the offensive well and with great pressure could always overcome the Swedish cover. We were very bright from the beginning Weltering confirmed. The German European midfielder again showed an outstanding performance in her 39th game at a continental tournament shining alone in the first round with ten parades, which corresponded to a rate of 53 per cent.
At the end of the first half, the DHB-Sieben played better and drew on three goals. At the beginning of the second round Sweden had a completely different role. Four simple mistakes plus three fast parades of Weltering in the first five minutes took Germany to the interim 16: 9 lead. Alicia Stole, Lone Fischer and Kerstin bold put on players who had not yet come up with a lot of time. Even if the DHB team did not run well it kept the lead without problems and did not get in the final phase any more. In the end we were able to enjoy it in this atmosphere which became ever softer said.
